I was being trained in a new ingles store. Having worked in a deli for almost 8 years, I have some general knowledge of food safety.

While filling the floor with prepackaged meat & cheeses, I mentioned several times that we needed to put the excess back in the cooler as it was losing its temp by the second. I was repeatedly told that it would be fine. By the time I went to lunch 4 1/2 hours later, it was all still out & at room temp. I was told by one manager when I told her that a particular package of cheese needed to be thrown out as it was hot & mushy that "we don't throw anything out!

The hotter it gets the more it brings out the flavor". Needless to say I no longer work for ingles because I could not in good conscience work for a company that thinks that poisoning the general public is a good practice.

Reason of review: Bad quality.

Location: Lincolnton, North Carolina

During my very first training session, I went into the deli & put on my apron & hat then went to wash my hands. I could not locate the hand washing sink, because it was FULL of dirty, slimy smelly used rags!!!

When I asked another deli employee where they wash their hands, she answered, "why do you need to wash your hands, just put gloves on!" This was at the Dallas, NC store. On my last day with Ingles, while still in training, some lady from corporate stood up on a chair & clapped her hands & proceeded to tell us all, "Hey! Y'all are wasting WAY too much time at that hand sink!

STOP WASHING YOUR HANDS & just change your gloves!" Seriously! I wouldn't set foot in the Lincolnton or Dallas, NC Ingles if my life depended on it!!

When it comes down to it, the management only cares about one thing... the bottom line.

They harp about food safety rules, but at the same time they threaten their managers with being terminated if their inventories are not in the range expected from them. It is the same in all the departments...meat, bakery, deli, frozen, dairy, produce, and grocery. Yesterday's roasted chicken is tomorrow's chicken salad...and it is then given 3 days before it is tossed out. However, sometimes it isn't tossed out, it is made into chicken pot pie on the food bar.

Old meat from the meat department is used by the deli for the hot bar. Old produce is used on the salad bar, the hot bar, and in the "freshly made" salads. Expired meat, such as steaks and roasts, are ground into "fresh" hamburger. Expired meats are often repackaged and marked "manager's special".

Ask any employee who has worked at Ingles for an extended time these two questions....do you eat anything from the deli (especially the hot bar)? Have you ever gotten sick from the food?

As a former employee, I can say yes to both of those questions. I can also say, I have never worked in the Deli, but have worked in the meat department, as was a CSM.

I thank you! Not many people left that care...about anything.

I haven't posted my complaint yet still looking for similar one. Look for it though, I find it astonishing! Ingles doesn't know yet.

It's about LL brand bottled water. Again, thank you so much you have a fantastic heart
